Pick up from Casablanca airport or hotel, you will be welcomed and greeted by our driver In this charming city, you will see the Hassan the 2 nd mosque which is the second largest functioning mosque in all of Africa, and the 7th largest in the world. We will then continue the drive to see the famous Ricks Cafe that is mentioned in the movie “Casablanca”.
We will continue our drive to Rabat, the administrative capital of Morocco, you will start exploring Rabat, where the ancient and modern collide in the tree-fringed boulevards of this European-flavored, administrative capital of Morocco.
Our local informative guide will ensure you have a wonderful day. Among the many sights to be seen will be the Kasbah des Oudayas with its beautiful Andalusian gardens located at the mouth of the river Abu Regrag.
The Kasbah was originally built in the 12th century by the al-Mohades dynasty. A highlight will be the Hassan Tower, another UNESCO site in Rabat, which is part of an incomplete mosque also built by the same dynasty in the 12th century. At the same location is the mausoleum of Mohamed V and Hassan II with its amazing architecture. While at this site you will also walk to have a view of the stunning performing arts center.
Following the visit to Rabat, we continued our drive via the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen, where you will be accommodated overnight in a hotel or riad.
After breakfast, We will leave Checfchaouen continuing to the Roman ruins of Volubilis. On your visit to this historical site, you be accompanied by a local guide. Volubilis was a part of the Roman Empire and dates to 225 BC. Here you will see the most beautiful mosaics in Morocco from the same period.
Your guided tour will increase your knowledge of the Roman Empire.
We will then continue the drive to Fes through the beautiful foothills of the Rif mountains. Overnight accommodation in a hotel or riad. BB.
Today your camel man will make sure to wake you up to watch a beautiful sunrise where you will see the sunshine cover the small golden dunes of Merzouga and the rocky barren Sahara Desert. After your breakfast at the camp, you will trek back by camel, or if you feel you’ve had enough of riding the camels, you have the option for a 4-wheel drive back from the camp.
You will then head on the road to the Dades Valley for another excellent day. First, you will visit the Todra Gorges, the highest and narrowest gorges in Morocco where you might get a chance to hike for an hour in the area. After lunch, the drive continued to the Dades Valley where you will be amazed by the beauty of the town such as the rock formations known as “monkey toes” and the sand castles that cover the area. You will be picked up from your accommodation in Fes then start traveling southeast to the destination of Merzouga. The first stop will be the town of Ifrane, referred to as the “Switzerland of Morocco” as it has alpine-style architecture and nearby slopes and forests. The second stop will be at the cedar forest in Azrou to see Barbary apes.
We will pass many traditional Berber villages where you can interact with local inhabitants. Through this journey, you will be amazed at the stunning contrast during the drive, as today you will cover so much land with so much of diversity. A stop for lunch can be at whatever time you decide. As we continue south, the scenery becomes especially beautiful where the Ziz valley meets the High Atlas Mountains and creates a breathtaking gorge. Our drive will contain several stops along the way to take beautiful photographs and will continue through the welcoming Berber villages of Erfoud and Rissani, the foundation of the Alaouite dynasty.
After arriving in Merzouga, you will start the guided camel ride, led by an experienced camel man to explore and enjoy the sand sea of Erg Chebi, the camel man will make sure to give you the chance to watch what may be the best sunset of your lifetime. After breakfast, our local informative guide will take you on an adventure through Fes (or Fez) the intellectual, cultural, and spiritual capital of Morocco. Fes is primarily known for the Fes El Bali, or walled medina, another UNESCO site, with its medieval architecture, vibrant souks, and old-world atmosphere. We start outside the medina to see the royal palace gate, then walk through the Jewish quarter or “the millah”, the first Jewish quarter built in the country.
Following that, you will enter the medina to experience the sensory stimulating souks – exotic spices, vibrant materials, and beautiful metalworks are just some of the sights you will experience. As well as spending the morning wandering by the souks, you will visit sites with cultural and historical interest including the famous Medrasa Bouanania, the el-Karaouine Mosque, and the University, the oldest in the world (and built by a woman). You will also visit the famous tanneries and the Najjarine Fountain.
After a Moroccan lunch, at a local restaurant in the heart of the medina, you will be driven to one of the fortresses to experience an amazing panoramic view of the entire medina. From there we will visit a pottery cooperative. Time permitting, we will take a drive through the modern Fes drive to experience a different atmosphere. Overnight accommodation at your hotel or riad. After breakfast at your hotel, you will head on the road to Marrakech crossing the Dades Valley through the beautiful Berber villages such as the “rose town” Kalaa Mgouna is a famous town for farming roses. One of our main stops will be at Skoura. Oasis and there are numerous ancient kasbahs, some sadly in ruins that stand amongst the palm trees.
You will visit a very famous kasbah in the region called Amridil Kasbah is a historic fortified residence in the oasis of Skoura. It is considered among the most impressive kasbahs of its kind in Morocco and was built during the 17th century. It’s famous for the filming of the movies “Ali Baba and 40 Thieves” and Lawrence of Arabia. After the visit, we continue the drive to Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Africa”, whose geography and beautiful landscape have attracted many world-class movie producers.
After lunch you have to option to visit the movie studio, said to be the biggest in the world, where such films as Kingdom of Heaven, Gladiator, Body of Lies, and Star Wars movies were filmed.
We will then continue the drive to Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah for a visit 25 kilometers from Ouarzazate, the UNESCO World Heritage Site a spectacular fortified village built during the beginning of the 20th century by the T-hami El Glaoui, as the kasbah today became one of the attractive spots for famous movie producers.
The drive will continue to Marrakech with dramatic scenery crossing the high Atlas Mountains through the magnificent road Tizi n’Tichka Pass, arriving in Marrakech in the late afternoon, and dropping off at your accommodation end of the Morocco itinerary 7 Days.
