We will visit the fortified city of Ait Ben Haddou and its famous Kasbah (declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO). This site is recognized because scenes from some movies such as “Gladiator,” “The Jewel of the Nile,” and series such as “Game of Thrones” were filmed there.

After lunch in town, we will continue our journey to Ouarzazate, which is considered the great gate of the desert. Later, we will pass through the Valley of Roses and the excellent palm groves of Skoura and Boumalne. Overnight in a hotel or Riad in the heart of the valley.

Day 2Dades Valley - Todra Gorges - Erfoud - Merzouga Desert

After breakfast, we’ll enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the Dades Valley from a strategic lookout in the mountains. From there, we can appreciate many kasbahs and their scenic characteristics. An excellent asphalt road leads up the valley from Tinghir to the gorge and the desert.

After some stops, we’ll reach the Todra Gorges. The scenery is spectacular. Local people live in the area and can be seen in their adobe villages. These gorges are popular among rock climbers thanks to their rock sides with many uneven surfaces.

After a short walk in the Todra Gorges, you’ll have free time for lunch in Tinejdad or Touroug. Then, we continue our way to the desert to reach the spectacular dunes of Merzouga. We’ll take a one-hour camel ride to our nomad camp in the middle of a sea of dunes (Erg Chebbi). Before dinner, we’ll see the sunset at the top of a dune and sleep in a tent under a beautiful starry sky.

Waking up early in the morning is essential for viewing the stunning sunrise in the middle of the desert—free time for breakfast. Then, you ride camels back to Merzouga, where your driver waits. We spend the day exploring the region of Merzouga. The area has many incredible sites, including dunes, wild lakes, mines, fossil areas, and fabulous oases.

We begin our journey in Merzouga by driving off-road to an ancient eyeliner mine. Then, we visit the Berber nomads in their hand-woven tent, drink Berber tea, and learn about their way of life.

Our next stop is Khamlia village, where you can enjoy Gnaoua music and dancing performances. Its inhabitants come from sub-Saharan African countries such as Mali, Sudan, and Niger. We have some free time to eat lunch at a nearby restaurant (Berber Pizza). Following that, we stroll through the palm trees.
