Marrakech to Fes 5 Day Desert Tour

Day 1Marrakech - High Atlas mountains - Ait Benhaddou Kasbah - Dades Valley

The first day of the tour starts with an early pick-up from your Marrakesh hotel. You’ll head toward the High Atlas Mountains, passing through the Tizi N’Tichka path, where you can stop to appreciate the mountain views. After crossing the Tizi N’Tichka bends, you’ll arrive at Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, Morocco’s largest kasbah. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and a filming location for several movies.

After a lunch break in Ait Ben Haddou, we will continue our drive to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa” and the center for Moroccan filmmaking. You can optionally visit The Atlas Studios, the world’s largest film studio located there. You will also see historical sites at Taourirt Kasbah. After your visit to Ouarzazate, we will head southeast through beautiful landscapes, passing the Skoura oasis and Roses Valley, before arriving in Dades Valley. You’ll spend the night in the heart of the valley.

Day 2Dades Valley - Todra Gorge - Merzouga desert

Today, after a delicious breakfast, we will start our drive from Bomalne Dades to Merzouga. Merzouga is home to Erg Chebbi, the largest and highest sand dunes in Morocco. We’ll pass through Tinghir and head to the Todra Gorge, the narrowest gorge in Morocco. After leaving Todra Gorge, we will pass through Berber villages like Tinjdad, Mallab, and Tourog. Our next stop will be Jourf, where you can see the ancient 16th-century irrigation system.

Then we’ll continue to Erfoud, known for its fossils and many fossil mines. Lunch will be at one of the restaurants along the way. Afterward, we’ll head to Merzouga, where you can ride camels across the dunes and enjoy the sunset. You’ll spend the night in a traditional Berber camp in the middle of the dunes, listening to Berber drum music under the stars.

Day 3Merzouga desert tour - Camel trek and night in the desert

After watching the sunrise next to your Berber camp, you’ll have breakfast, then ride your camels and return to the meeting point in Merzouga (if you want, we can start the 4WD tour directly from the camp). Today, we’ll traverse the same route as the Paris Dakar rally, exploring the Erg Chebbi Sahara desert and stopping at the most renowned Sahara locations.

We will spend time with Berber nomads to learn about their secrets and manners after visiting Tissardmine village, where fossil quarries still exist. From there we’ll take you to explore the old mines of Mfis, then go on to Khamlia village, where you’ll have a lunch break in a traditional restaurant; afterward you’ll get to visit the Gnaoua people and enjoy their unique music and African dance. After that, your 4WD tour around Merzouga concludes at your hotel.

Day 4Merzouga - Ziz valley- Midelt

After breakfast, your driver will pick you up from your accommodation and then leave the Sahara Desert, taking the main road towards Midelt, passing through Erfoud, Ziz Valley, and Al Hassan Eddakhil Dam. Our first stop will be in Ziz Valley, where you’ll admire the panoramic view of the palm groves from above; from there we’ll go on to Midelt, passing through Tizi Ntelghamt Pass and having stops to take pictures. Following the lunch break, we will continue our journey to Midelt. Overnight in a hotel.

Day 5Midelt- Middle Atlas Mountains - Fes

Following breakfast, we drive to Fes through the cedar forest habitat of Barbary apes and Ifrane city, also known as the Moroccan Switzerland. In the late afternoon, your 5-day desert tour will end at your hotel or riad in Fes.
