Days Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour

Day 1Marrakech - High Atlas mountains - Ait Benhaddou Kasbah - Dades Valley

The first day of the tour will commence at 8 am from Marrakesh towards the High Atlas Mountains by passing through the Tizi N’Tichka path, where you stop to appreciate the mountain landscapes. After traversing the Tizi N’Tichka bends, you will arrive at Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, Morocco’s largest Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, and a filming location for several films.

After taking a lunch break in Ait Ben Haddou, you will continue your drive to Ouarzazate city, known as the “Hollywood of Morocco” and the hub for Moroccan filmmaking. The Atlas Studios, the world’s largest film studio, was located there. You will visit historical monuments at Taourirt Kasbah. Following your visit to Ouarzazate, you will journey through the picturesque Kasbah landscapes, passing through the Berber villages of Skoura and Roses Valley, known for their annual rose festival in May. You will spend the night in the heart of the valley.

Day 2Dades Valley - Todra Gorge - Merzouga desert

The second day of the tour will start from Bomalne Dades into Merzouga, which has the largest and highest sand dunes in Morocco, Erg Chebbi. Then we will pass Tinghir and head to the Todra Gorge, which is the narrowest gorge in Morocco. When we leave Todra Gorge, we will pass through different Berber villages of Tinjdad, Mallab, and Tourog. We will next stop in Jourf, where you can witness the ancient people’s 16th-century irrigation system.
Thereafter, continue to Erfoud, the land of fossils, where there existed many fossil mines. The lunch will be in one of many restaurants on the way. Then continue to Merzouga, where you will ride the camels across the dunes and enjoy the sunset. You will spend the night in a traditional Berber camp in the middle of the sand dunes, where you can listen to Berber drum music under the moon and stars.

Day 3Merzouga desert tour - camel trek and night in the desert

After watching the sunrise next to your Berber camp, you’ll have breakfast, then ride your camels and return to the meeting point in Merzouga (if you want, we can start the 4WD tour directly from the camp). Today, we’ll traverse the same route as the Paris Dakar rally, exploring the Erg Chebbi Sahara desert and stopping at the most renowned Sahara locations.

We will spend time with Berber nomads to learn about their secrets and manners after visiting Tissardmine village, where fossil quarries still exist. From there we’ll take you to explore the old mines of Mfis, then go on to Khamlia village, where you’ll have a lunch break in a traditional restaurant; afterward you’ll get to visit the Gnaoua people and enjoy their unique music and African dance. After that, your 4WD tour around Merzouga concludes at your hotel.
