A 5 day tour from Marrakech to Fes via the vast Sahara desert will give you the chance to discover the authenticity of Morocco and enjoy different landscapes of the southeast. This perfect option will take you further to visit the popular Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, Ouarzazate attractions, Rose Valley, Boumalne Dades, Todgha Gorges, Erg Chebbi Sahara Desert, Ziz Valley, Middle Atlas Mountains, Forest of Azrou, and Ifrane. Many travelers around the world demand this trip, especially those who want to explore the Merzouga region, enjoy the view of sunset/sunrise over the golden sand dunes, visit the local nomads, spend an unforgettable night in a desert camp under the stars, and experience the best Morocco’s activities, including hiking, camel trekking, and 4WD tours around the Sahara desert.
The first day of the tour will commence at 8 am from Marrakesh towards the High Atlas Mountains by passing through the Tizi N’Tichka path, where you stop to appreciate the mountain landscapes. After traversing the Tizi N’Tichka bends, you will arrive at Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, Morocco’s largest Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, and a filming location for several films.
After taking a lunch break in Ait Ben Haddou, you will continue your drive to Ouarzazate city, known as the “Hollywood of Morocco” and the hub for Moroccan filmmaking. The Atlas Studios, the world’s largest film studio, was located there. You will visit historical monuments at Taourirt Kasbah. Following your visit to Ouarzazate, you will journey through the picturesque Kasbah landscapes, passing through the Berber villages of Skoura and Roses Valley, known for their annual rose festival in May. You will spend the night in the heart of the valley.
After watching the sunrise next to your Berber camp, you’ll have breakfast, then ride your camels and return to the meeting point in Merzouga (if you want, we can start the 4WD tour directly from the camp). Today, we’ll traverse the same route as the Paris Dakar rally, exploring the Erg Chebbi Sahara desert and stopping at the most renowned Sahara locations.
We will spend time with Berber nomads to learn about their secrets and manners after visiting Tissardmine village, where fossil quarries still exist. From there we’ll take you to explore the old mines of Mfis, then go on to Khamlia village, where you’ll have a lunch break in a traditional restaurant; afterward you’ll get to visit the Gnaoua people and enjoy their unique music and African dance. After that, your 4WD tour around Merzouga concludes at your hotel.
After breakfast, your driver will pick you up from your accommodation and then leave the Sahara Desert, taking the main road towards Midelt, passing through Erfoud, Ziz Valley, and Al Hassan Eddakhil Dam. Our first stop will be in Ziz Valley, where you’ll admire the panoramic view of the palm groves from above; from there we’ll go on to Midelt, passing through Tizi Ntelghamt Pass and having stops to take pictures. Following the lunch break, we will continue our journey to Midelt. Overnight in a hotel.
Following breakfast, we drive to Fes through the cedar forest habitat of Barbary apes and Ifrane city, also known as the Moroccan Switzerland. In the late afternoon, your 5-day desert tour will end at your hotel or riad in Fes.
